Upon registration, the faculty will contact you to begin developing your execution plans. The face-to-face meeting will be an intensive two-day meeting on April 12-13, 2007, in Washington, DC. This meeting will be a workshop format, during which you will review execution plans you have developed and then improve on key components.
This meeting will feature facilitated learning among participating teams concerning ways to strengthen current approaches to execution. Participants will prepare for the meeting by completing an assessment of the organization’s current capability to achieve system-level results.
The initial meeting will include brief presentations, small group discussion, and hands-on workshops with active consultation from faculty and colleagues. Key activities include:
- Understanding an overall framework for execution, a version of which has been used by the best organizations in health care and other industries to execute strategic plans and achieve leading edge results
- Customized feedback on participant’s current system for execution in the context of strategic plans
- Creating realistic plans for developing successful execution systems for each participant
- Building for sustained execution - human resource considerations, project management methods, and oversight
For the three months following the kick-off meeting, IHI faculty will provide one-on-one coaching through phone calls and video conferences, and will facilitate site visits among the participants as appropriate. These interactions will be designed to help drive a new approach to execution throughout the system.
The initiative will end with a three-hour interactive web-based session, at which time all participants will consolidate what has been learned during the initiative.
